ART CENTER    (EVANSVILLE, INDIANA)

* AIA Award Winner - One Site, Infinite Solutions competition
A contemporary Art Center formed by a continuous folded piece (reinforced concrete) which rises from the ground. The entire building projects a sense of transparency that allows visibility of the art work being displayed and welcomes people to experience the center.  In the evening, the building shines like a beacon of light, progress, and artistry.  The interior houses art galleries and an auditorium. The art center walls unfold to create a stepping plaza, reminiscent of the Spanish Steps in Rome.

SOUNDROOM     (MADRID, SPAIN)

* Honorable Mention – International Design competition
This project focuses in transforming a newly constructed concrete nave into the headquarters of Soundroom Co.  The main users are local Spanish musicians.  The main program is to design (3) rehearsal studios to be soundproof with great sound acoustics.   The concept is to transform a sound wave into a habitable space.   The sound wave is represented through a series of parallel wood planes that permit natural daylight (roof’s skylight), and create a playful rhythm of light; this rhythm changes throughout the day with the sun’s path.   The wood planes also provide soundproofing to the rehearsal spaces.

WHITE HOUSE REDUX   (WASHINGTON, DC)

The main goal is to physically remake the White House as a symbol of hope and decentralization, welcoming all people.  The current White House reflects an austere centralized residential form, conveyed by its rigid symmetry.  My proposal presents a decentralized complex, showcasing a dynamic and asymmetrical design.  Metaphorically, the design displays the US political power structure: the oval shaped White House sits at the highest plateau, floats above the ground, reflecting the “top-to-bottom” US power flow.  The grand entrance, promenade, and ramp embrace visitors and create a welcoming-feel to our country.

The Subway

SUBWAY RENOVATION

The Subway Renovation was designed with a modern and clean look that is both practical and beautiful. By creating a unique design with unconventional elements, visitors are encouraged to stop, look and explore - regardless of their age. I’m proud to take part in a project that brings joy to the loving community of San Francisco.
